3rd Chocodyn Summer School 2025, Oléron, France

Join us at the 3rd Chocodyn Summer School on Materials under High Strain Rates and Extreme Conditions, taking place from September 22 to 26, 2025, in Oléron (France). What’s on the program ? Academic courses combined with practical simulation and experimental workshops. Don’t miss our booth for the hands-on session on Photonic Doppler Velocimetry (PDV, VISAR, TRIATURE) with boris pedrono.

About Chocodyn

ChocoDyn brings together the GDR-Chocolas community and the community of detonics applied to materials, structures, and processes. Information about facility design, instrumentation development and range operations is shared among the membership through informal papers presented at annual meetings held at member facilities.

It brings together 19 laboratories and around a hundred researchers studying loads and their effects in a range from a few bars to several hundred kbars on time scales from a few ns to ms. The corresponding strain rates range from 10 3s -1 to 10 6s -1 . The goal is to increase scientific knowledge on the federation’s major issues.

It will address societal challenges related to the durability of materials and structures subjected to these extreme conditions of pressure, speed, and temperature.

Topics covered

  • photonic doppler velocimetry (PDV)
  • velocity interferometer system for any reflector (VISAR)
  • meterorite impacts
  • impact mechanics
  • shock physics research technology
  • launchers and explosives
  • armor development technology
  • gun-related testing
  • coldspray
  • microstructure
  • laser matter interaction
