Beam Expander

Product description

In response to the demand for higher power optics, IDIL provides expanded beam connectors. These connectors increase the beam waist, reducing power density at the connection point and enhancing performance in high-power applications. These connectors are based on graded index expanded beam micro lenses. By welding single mode fiber and the right length of graded index fiber, these connectors allow high power handling capacity and low insertion losses.

Moreover, their small size and the high contamination tolerance make them very useful in a large spectrum of applications. Our single mode graded index expanded beam connectors are resistant to water, dust and oil. These connectors are available in FC and Elio contact.

  • High power handling capacity (3W typical)
  • Low insertion loss
  • Low return loss
  • Small size
  • Reliable optical performance in harsh environment
  • Multipoint connectors (up to 24)

  • Medical & Biotech
  • Aerospace & Space
  • Switches
  • Laser diode coupling
  • Optical waveguide coupling

FOCUSING CAPABILITY

GRIN is often used to focus or collimate light in optical systems. The gradual change in refractive index helps in achieving this without the need for multiple lens elements.

LOW SENSITIVITY TO MISALIGNMENT

One of the key features of expanded beam connectors is their reduced sensitivity to alignment issues. This makes them suitable for applications where frequent connection and disconnection may occur, such as in field deployments.

LOW INSERTION LOSS

Expanded beam connectors aim to minimize insertion loss. Their small size and the high contamination tolerance make them very useful in a large spectrum of applications. Our SMF-GIF connectors are more resistant to water, dust and oil than SMF.
